Civilization 2 --- A Gaming Classic
Civilization 2 – A Gaming Classic

The best strategy game ever
Civilization is a computer game that deserves to be respected. This article tells you the basics to the biggest sequel to any game ever created.
Want to control the world? Want to be able to dictate traffic? Want Sim City but with constant war? Do you want to be treated to your own royal court? Or, do you want peace in all lands?
Civilization 2 is the game for you if any of this applies to you.
Take an empire from the stone age to the time of space travel. Experience world wars, discrete alliances, and control all the facets that makes civilization itself such a interesting part of world history.
What makes Civilization 2 work so much better than the games made after it are the small details. You can control everything, but, unless you’re playing in the later stages of the game, you are never overwhelmed with all the intricacies of making an empire work. This is a major failing in many strategy games: Far to much work involved that make a game far from simple.
Civilization 3 failed to bring in a suitable interface, even with superior graphics, and ended up falling short of what Civilization 2 could do.
The first Civilization is considered by many to be the best strategy game ever; it would make more sense for the second Civilization to carry this mantle as it explores the realities of civilization a little better.
The game is far from perfect, but the added details of things like video and a superior AI make it more than just a graphic laden sequel to the first Civilization.
The AI in Civilization 2 can keep you guessing. The attempts at making a better AI failed in Civilization 3. Hours could be spent on both games, maybe even days, but it was clear which game, in the end, was superior.
Many game developers are moving towards real time strategy (RTS) rather than turned based strategy (TBS) that is incorporated in Civilization 2. Age of Empires, Command and Conquer, and Warcraft all proved that RTS was the wave of the future, but Civilization 2 is superior to these games because it is not about just how fast you can alternate between clicking your mouse and your keyboard – it’s a chess match.
The animation is leagues behind games of today, but the simple interface coupled with the superior AI makes it hands down the best strategy game ever created for any gaming platform.
Alpha Centauri was a successful sequel to the game that had a direct effect on Civilization 3. The ideas from creator Sid Meier on Alpha made Civilization 3 what it was. Still, no strategy game compares to the addicting qualities that Civilization 2 has.
All gamers can find joy in staying up far too late. With all its qualities, it doesn’t have the multiplayer fun that games like Age of Empires and Warcraft have, but, if you’re looking for a single player game that can easily be mastered, and that has the highest single player replayability of any game ever created, Civilization 2 is the game to play.
